* Dry weather will likely prevail next week, but a few showers and
isolated thunderstorms are possible Tuesday and Wednesday.

.DISCUSSION...
High pressure aloft will depart eastward today in concert with an
approaching upper trough from the eastern Pacific. Winds will be
breezy this afternoon across lower elevations, including area lakes
where boating conditions may deteriorate. Ridgetop gusts will
increase to 50-60 mph this afternoon, continuing into Saturday
morning before subsiding. While this trough will be mostly dry,
latest Hi-Res ensembles paint a 30% chance of light rain showers
in Lassen and far N Washoe County late tonight into early Saturday
morning. Temperatures will steadily cool through Sunday, becoming
more typical of mid-April as daytime highs reach the 60s to low
70s this weekend.
Another warm-up is in store early next week as high pressure
rebuilds across the western states. Temperatures will likely become
well above average once again as daytime highs are poised to reach
the upper 60s in the Sierra and upper 70s to low 80s in western
Nevada. While this pattern favors dry weather, a cut-off low to our
south may come close enough to produce showers and perhaps a stray
thunderstorm Tuesday and Wednesday. Confidence remains low on this
scenario as cut-off lows tend to be tricky to forecast, especially
at this range.

.AVIATION...
The main weather concern will be the potential for fog this morning
at KTRK, particularly between the 10-15Z timeframe. Should fog
develop, brief IFR/LIFR conditions could occur at KTRK through
daybreak. However, this fog is less likely to form with more
widespread mid-high level cloud cover overhead. Otherwise, VFR
conditions prevail today with increased west winds (gusts of 20-25
kts at regional terminals) in the afternoon. LLWS and light to
moderate mountain wave turbulence will be possible at Sierra
terminals this evening into early Saturday morning when FL100
winds strengthen to 25-35 kts.
